Q1-When and how will the Q&A section be updated?

A1-The Q&A section will be updated with real-time information about Text Express.

Q2. IS Text Express be available in Canada and USA?

A2. Text Express has been been available in Canada and USA since 2005.

A3. Where will I be able to buy TE?

Q4. Can Text Express be used with GSM and CDMA networks?

A4. Text Express connects to the wireless networks using a GSM type modem  but can send and receive SMS to GSM and CDMA phones anywhere in the world.

Q5.  Can Text Express be customized and be utilized via a Server?

A5. Yes, we will can modify, test, implement and support customized versions of Text Express. 

Requirements:

Q1. What do I need to deploy Text Express?

A1. You require a Pentium PC with 512 RAM or better, a  dedicated serial port for the modem, a wireless rate package with SMS from you local GSM wireless provider and Text Express software and modem.  NOTE: to load the TE Software, you must use the Admin user on your PC.

Q2. What if my PC has only USB ports?

A2. A USB to Serial port adapter cable available at most PC retail stores can be purchased and used. Future Modems will have a Serial and or a USB connection.

Q3. How much memory/space do I need on my PC for the Text Express software?

A3. Maximum hard drive space required is 25MB.

Operations:

Q1. Should the modem and PC be on at all times?

A1. Yes, to receive inbound text messages, both the PC and modem must be left on at all times.

Q2. What if the PC is turned off and the modem is left on?

A2. Any text messages received will be stored on the SIM card but not at the PC, therefore you will not be able to retrieve those messages from the PC. Note: a standard SIM card can store only about 10 to 15 SMS messages. In such a situation, remove the SIM card from the modem, insert it into your cell phone and use the Messaging features of your cell phone to read such messages so that you can respond to the sender.

Q3. What happens when the PC goes to sleep or to screen saver?

A3. This has the same result as turning the PC off.  Any text messages received will be stored on the SIM card but not at the PC, therefore you will not be able to retrieve those messages from the PC. Note: a standard SIM card can store only about 10 to 15 SMS messages. In such a situation, remove the SIM card from the modem, insert it into your cell phone and use the Messaging features of your cell phone to read such messages so that you can respond to the sender.

Q4. Can the modem, associated with Text Express, be used for other communications?

A4. Yes, but at such times, TE will not be operational and you will not be able to receive or send Text Messages. We recommend that the modem be dedicated to TE and not be used for other functions. Using the modem for voice calls or access to the Internet are two functions that are on the development list for future TE versions.

Q4. Can the TE GSM modem be used worldwide?

A4. Yes, the TE GSM modem can work on any GSM 850/900/1900 GSM cellular network.

Text Express Features:

Q1. What is the capacity of the phone book?

A1. The phone book can hold up to 500  cell numbers.

Q2. How many phone groups can the phone book hold?

A2. TE can have up to 25 groups.

Q3. How about the Out box, Inbox and Sent box?

A3. Between 1000 to 1500 messages can be stored. It is recommended that at this threshold, the messages be archived. Refer to the "Help" section of TE.

Q4. What is the capacity for Templates and Key Words?

A4. You can create up to 100 templates and have up to 500 Key Words.

Q5. Can phone lists be imported to Text Express?

A5. Yes as long as the list is in a comma-delimited file.

Q6. What is the character limit for the Notes section of the phone book?

A6.  Notes allows for up to 50 characters to be stored. Additional characters will not be stored. The next version of TE scheduled for November 2004 will not allow entry beyond 50 characters.

Network and Phone Operations:

Q1. Can the calling line id from the SIM card associated with the modem be blocked?

A1. No. This feature is not available for Text Messaging.

Q2. Can a return/reply from a wireless devise be blocked?

A2. No. This feature is not available for Text Messaging.

Q3. Can text messages be sent and received by all cellular networks?

A3. Text Messages can be sent to and received from all wireless carriers that provide SMS. This includes the majority of the wireless carriers worldwide.

Q4. Are all cell phones and PDA's SMS equipped?

A4. Phones and PDA's sold today, have SMS as a standard feature. Check with your wireless manufacturer or network provider if you do not know how to operate the SMS feature.

Text Messaging Costs:

Q1. How are text messages charged by the carriers?

A1. Most wireless carriers charge the sender only for test messaging or SMS. Some carriers have special SMS rate packages with unlimited usage plans. Check with your carrier for details.

Q2. Does long distance charges apply to text messaging?

A2. No. There are no long distance charges associated with text messaging. Only per message charges apply.  Check with you local wireless carrier for details.
